Program Overview

The Internship and Work Experience Program is designed for college students who are enrolled in a course(s) at San Joaquin Delta College, while working as paid or non-paid/volunteer employees. The Internship / Work Experience Program provides the student an opportunity to develop marketable skills, abilities, attitudes and work habits appropriate to successful employment in a career field.

Students enrolled in the Internship / Work Experience Program may earn from 1- 4 units of college credit per participating semester. The number of units requested by the student is directly dependent on the number of completed on-the-job hours. The student may earn a total of 16 units from the program.

Participating students MUST be employed either in a paid or non paid/volunteer position with an organization AND officially enrolled in a course or courses at San Joaquin Delta College for the participating semester prior to submitting the Student Application Packet. This includes late starting courses.

The program does not find employment for interested students.

  • Under paid employment status the student is required to complete 75 on-the-job hours for each Internship / Work Experience unit requested on the application.
  • Under non-paid /volunteer employment status the student is required to complete 60 on-the-job hours for each Internship / Work Experience unit requested on the application.

Please see How To Determine Units for clarification.

The student is responsible for completing the following assignments during the participating semester:

  • Student Learning Objectives,
  • (3) three monthly reports,
  • Final Report (Internship students only),
  • and submit the Employer Evaluation to the faculty supervisor.

The employer is required to review and approve the student learning objectives, monthly reports, complete the employer evaluation provided by the student and meet with Internship / Work experience instructor to review the student progress during the semester.

The student will be awarded credit for the Internship / Work Experience units requested upon completion and submission of the employer evaluation, completion of required number of hours for units requested, and completion of required assignments by the submission deadlines.
