The Academic Senates within the State of California Community College System are mandated to get involved in the following areas:

The Senate's primary function*, as the representative of the faculty, is to make recommendations to the Administration and Board of Trustees on policy development and implementation matters concerning:

(1) curriculum, including establishing prerequisites and placing courses within disciplines;
(2) degree and certificate requirements;
(3) grading policies;
(4) educational program development;
(5) standards or policies regarding student preparation and success;
(6) districts and college governance structures, as related to faculty roles;
(7) faculty roles and involvement in accreditation processes, including self-study and annual reports;
(8) policies for faculty professional development activities;
(9) processes for program review;
(10) processes for institutional planning and budget development; and
(11) other academic and professional matters as are mutually agreed upon between the governing board and the academic senate.

With these guidelines in mind, the Senate and its Officers established the following goals for the 2007-2008 Academic Year.

  • Full-Time Faculty Entitlements
    Requests for 2008-2009
 
  • Process for Mountain House Transfers/Entitlements
    • Work with SJDCTA to develop language to establish a process for full-time faculty to transfer to Mountain House
    • Establish a Faculty Entitlement Process for Mountain House
 
  • Accreditation

    As part of the Accreditation Steering Committee, complete the Self Study process.  Participate in the Spring 2008 Accreditation process.


  • Solicit Academic Senate input and participation in all academic matters of the college and inform the Senate of college and statewide issues and events.
