2. Thesis Topic: The Chinese, the Gold Rush and the Railroad. Thesis Statement: Race has often been a major issue in regards American history and this certainly includes California. However in the Golden State unlike the rest of the nation the issue of race meant the Chinese and among the various immigrant groups who helped build modern California none contributed more and yet received such contempt as the "sojourners" and "Celestials" who had flocked to the "Golden Mountain."
