This course is a survey of the artistic traditions of our western cultural heritage.  The arts including painting, sculpture, architecture, music, dance, drama, and literature are studied as vehicles in the search for meaning and value from the ancient world to modern times.  (UC, CSU)
 

 
HUM 4     INTRODUCTION TO LINGUISTICS

This course is an introduction to the study of language in theory and practice.  Students explore what is known about human language including its uniqueness, its structure, its use, its diversity, and its universality.  An effort is made to analyze the relationship between language, culture, and social levels. This course is a survey of the historical development and essential beliefs of the major religions of the Eastern world.  Primary emphasis is on the major phases of development and comparative insights among the great religions of the world.  Course work consists of readings, lectures, and discussions in the areas of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Confucianism, and Taoism...  (UC, CSU)

HUM 19A     SELECTED TOPICS: MEXICAN CULTURE - TRAVEL IN MEXICO

This topic course is designed to provide the student with an introduction to Mexican culture, history, architecture and geography. The student experiences total immersion in the culture through travel and the experience living with a Mexican family. This course is designed to enable the student to combine travel with study. Prerequisites: Presentation of a project acceptable to the instructor and the division chairperson; HUM 3, 14A or 14B with a grade of "B" or better.
