Upon successful completion of the Associate Degree in the Speech Language Pathology Assistant Program, the graduate is able to apply for licensure with the State of California. A licensed Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) works under the direction of a supervising Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) and demonstrates the skills, knowledge and training to practice in a variety of settings within the parameters of the SLPA scope of practice. |

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO BE A SLPA? |
Examples of appropriate SLPA tasks include: providing direct treatment assistance to patients or clients with communication disorders, assisting the SLP with speech, language and hearing screenings without clinical interpretation of results, assisting with formal documentation, following documented treatment plans or protocols, documenting patient/client performance, assisting during assessments, performing clerical duties such as: preparing materials, charts, records or graphs, scheduling meetings or therapy appointments and record keeping, providing administrative assistance towards research projects, in-service trainings and family/community education in the field of Communication Disorders and performing checks and maintenance of equipment including augmentative communication devices. |
