Rock-n-Roll Diva Brings Art to Gallery
Greatest Hits: a multi-media installation by Johnette Napolitano

STOCKTON, CA - The L.H. Horton Jr. Gallery on the campus of San Joaquin Delta College in association with Rhinohead Productions and Trumbull Art Gallery, presents Greatest Hits: a multi-media installation by Johnette Napolitano from November 8th to December 20th, 2001. The Opening Reception is planned for Thursday, November 8th from 5 to 8 p.m.; it is free and open to the public. In addition, Concrete Blonde will perform acoustically after the reception with a concert in Tillie Lewis Theatre. Tickets are $10 and available through Delta Center for the Arts Box Office. The Box Office can be reached at 209-954-5110.

Greatest Hits is the debut solo exhibition of Napolitanos' new body of work which incorporates turntables and speakers used as canvas. The works comment on her inseparable bonds of art and music as well as a bold statement discussing the historical unrest between musicians andthe recording industry. Johnette explains "the music business is onethat makes a lot of money from the outpouring of an artist's heart, a song is born of pain, emotion, joy and true inspiration only to become part of an assembly line. It's almost as if to be a recording artist is nothing more in today's popular culture than glorified factory work."

Johnette Napolitano is a Hollywood native, life long artist, and most recognized as the frontwoman and bassist for Concrete Blonde; the critically acclaimed band from the Southern Californian music scene of the 80s & 90s. The band went on to release 8 albums from 1983 through 1997 and toured the world several times. Earlier this year, original members Napolitano, James Mankey and Harry Rushakoff reunited to produce an upcoming album of new material. Napolitano and Mankey's appearance on campus marks a special opportunity for the City of Stockton to experience these musicians in an intimate environment.

Greatest Hits is the culmination of a year long project initiated by Gallery Technician and Director of Rhinohead Productions, William F. Wilson II. While in his previous position as Exhibit Designer and Special Projects Consultant for Trumbull Art Gallery in Warren, Ohio, Wilson contacted Napolitano in hopes of exhibiting the veteran artist in her first solo-exhibition.

The L.H. Horton Jr. Gallery is located in Shima Center on the campus of San Joaquin Delta College. The Gallery is currently open Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays & Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with special extended hours on Saturday, November 10th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.
