Champions and 14 NorCal Champions.
Only two other schools in Northern California have done better.

Merv Smith attended Modesto High School where he lettered in basketball, football and his specialty track. He then attended Modesto Junior College where he lettered in football and track. Merv transferred to San Jose State University and was coached under Bud Winters for three years. Merv was the Head Track Coach at Yuba College two years prior to becoming Head Track & Field Coach at San Joaquin Delta College spanning 27 years. Merv established running camps, featuring famous coaches, such as Art Lydiard. He was a consultant for the St. Thomas Olympic Track Team. His wins included: 7 Cross Country League Championships 4 Northern California Cross Country Championships 3 Northern California Track Championships 15 State Individuals 1 Junior International Champion in the Steeple Chase
