San Joaquin Delta College Tech Prep
Tech Prep is a program of study that:

  • Provides technical preparation in a career field such as engineering technology, applied science, a mechanical, industrial, or practical art of trade, agriculture, health occupations, culinary programs, business, or economics
  • Is designed for all students – not just students who are high academic performers or on a college preparation track program
  • Addresses different learning styles; prepares students for the careers of tomorrow; emphasizes career-ladders and lifelong learning; and creates a smooth transition between high school and college

What is Tech Prep?

Technical Preparation (Tech Prep) is an education program, a planned sequence of study in a technical field that students can begin participating in as early as the ninth grade. Tech Prep was developed to provide students with training and education to become prepared for business and industry. In the early 1980’s business and industry made the shift from the Industrial Age to the Age of Technology. When this transition took place high schools were required to refocus their programs to include more technical training and skills, applied academics and opportunities for hands-on experiences in the workplace. A major benefit of Tech Prep is the connection between high school and college classes and the "real world."
