San Joaquin Delta College Police Department

Established in the late 1970's, the Student Service Officer Program was developed to assist those interested in a Law Enforcement career, work hand in hand with actual Law Enforcement personnel. Student Officers wear very distinct uniforms, which consist of a medium gray shirt with a Student Officer/Police patch on each shoulder, and black pants. If you need assistance and see a Student Officer, please inform them of your need and they will assist you in any way possible.

The Student Service Officers provide community service and security to the campus population, through the following duties:

Respond to calls for service on campus

Assist Health Unit personnel on medical aid calls

Provide security and crowd control for special events

Write Crime and Incident reports

Parking enforcement

Dispatch duties

Receive, log and secure found property

Traffic control before and after special events

Assist Police Officers and Dispatchers in their duties

Escort and message delivery

Vehicle jump starts and lock-out assistance

Although Student Service Officers are non-sworn personnel, they are required to go through a stringent hiring process. Following, is a brief list of the minimum requirements for becoming a Student Officer:

Must be a student, currently enrolled at Delta College

Must maintain 9 semester units in the Spring/Fall semesters

A minimum G.P.A. 2.0 must be maintained

Completed San Joaquin Delta College application

Completed applications must be submitted to Campus Police

Participation in Oral Interview Panel

Although each applicant is subject to a complete background history investigation by the Campus Police, it is important to understand that Student Officers are non-sworn employees. Many of the Student Officers from Delta College have gone on to serve as Law Enforcement Professionals with various agencies throughout California. The Student Officer Program has proven itself as an invaluable service to Delta College.
