About Our Officers

The San Joaquin Delta Community College District provides primary law enforcement service and community policing through the District Police Department. The District Police Department is a full service, P.O.S.T. certified police agency that provides general law enforcement services twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to over 19,000 students and staff. District Police personnel enforce federal, state and local laws, including criminal laws and vehicle code violations, as well as investigate all criminal and traffic cases that occur within the District. The District Police Department also provides policing for a variety of events held within the District for the community at large.

The San Joaquin Delta Community College District Police Department was originally organized in the 1960's as a 'security' department. In 1982, pursuant to Education Code 72330, the Campus Police Department was established and moved to its current location on the south/east corner of the campus. In February 1983, after several studies and significant research, the Board of Trustees authorized the Campus Police to petition for acceptance into the Peace Officers Standards and Training Program (P.O.S.T.). On January 6, 1984, after a lengthy review process, the Delta College District Police Department gained its P.O.S.T. certification.

District Peace Officers receive their legal authority from section 830.32(a) of the California Penal Code. They are vested with full law enforcement powers and responsibilities, identical to that of city Police and Sheriff. District Police Officers are certified by, and meet the selection of training requirements set forth by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training for the State.
