Academic probation and progress probation status are actions taken by the College to express concern that a student is not maintaining satisfactory academic performance toward a stated educational goal.

We encourage you to see a counselor whenever you have a question about your academic program. Please keep in mind that during the the first few weeks of the semster our counselors are very busy.  Students see counselors on a first come first served basis.

What is Academic Probation?
You are on Academic Probation if you have attempted at least 12 units and your cumulative grade point average is below a 2.00 or "C" average.
Read Delta's Scholastic Probation Policies for more information.

• Earn a "C" or better in all of your courses.
• Repeat courses that you previously earned a "D" or "F" in.
• Work with a counselor to develop a plan of action.  Call 209-954-5151 ext 6276 or stop by Counseling Center 234 on the 2nd floor of the DeRicco Student Services Buildingto schedule an appointment.  You can also schedule an appointment online by clicking on Make an Appointment in the menu to the left of the screen.   Make sure you request an appointment specifically for Probation.

Academic Probation Workshop
Attend a 2-hour workshop and learn about the Academic Probation process. 

• Learn what steps to take to get back in good standing.
• Learn how to calculate your grade point average (gpa).
• Learn about campus resources to help you achieve success.
• Interact with a counselor and others on Probation.
• Earn back a registration priority point!
• Review your current academic history and ask questions.

One-hour Counseling Appointment
Stop by Counseling Center 234 on the 2nd floor of the DeRicco Student Services Building, call 209-954-5151 ext 6276, or click on the Make An Appointment link on the Counseling homepage to schedule a 1-hour appointment with a counselor to review your status.  Make sure you request an appointment specifically for Probation.

What should I do if I'm dismissed?
If you are dismissed you will receive an email in your Delta College email that explains your dismissal status and the appeal process.  Please refer to this email first.  If you have questions regarding your dismissal or your dismissal appeal please contact Catherine Mooney by emailing her from your Delta Student Email account at cmooney@deltacollege.edu.

If you are filing an appeal and/or have questions about your dismissal and would like to speak with a counselor, please stop by Counseling Center 234 on the 2nd floor of the DeRicco Student Services Building, call 209-954-5151 ext 6276or click on Make an Appointment to schedule a 1-hour appointment. Make sure you request an appointment specifically for Probation.

What is Progress Probation?
You are on Progress Probation if you have attempted at least 12 units and 50% or more of your total units are from W, I or NC.
Read Delta's Scholastic Probation Policies for more information.

What should I do to get off Progress Probation?
Earn enough letter grade or Credit units so that more than 50% of your total units come from letter grade or Credit units:

• Enroll in courses that you will be able to complete.
• Be aware of the Drop Without a "W" deadline.
• Work with a counselor to develop a plan of action.  Call 209-954-5151 ext 6276 or stop by Counseling Center 234 on the 2nd floor of the DeRicco Student Services Buildingto schedule an appointment.  Make sure you request an appointment specifically for Probation.

Financial Aid Probation and Disqualification are separate from Scholastic Probation.  Please contact the Financial Aid Office at 209-954-5151 for questions about your Financial Aid status.

Do you need to drop a course?
You can drop a course by calling the STAR system at 209-476-7997 or through Online Registration.  Remember it's the student's responsibility to drop themselves from a course.  Instructors are not

responsible for dropping you. 

If you're unsure about whether or not to drop a course it's recommended that you speak with the instructor of the course and/or a counselor.  You can schedule an appointment with a counselor by calling 209-954-5151 ext 6276, coming to Counseling Center 234 on the 2nd floor of the DeRicco Student Services Building, or clicking on the Make an Appointment link on the left side of the screen. 

Personal and Crisis Counseling

Delta's Student Services offices offer mental health services and referrals.  Our services include help with:  Psychiatric Events, Campus Events, and Life Issues/Events.  In an emergency contact 911 or Campus Police at 954-5000.  For Crisis Counseling contact the Counseling Division at 209-954-5151 ext. 6276.

Academic Alert
Instructors use the Academic Alert Notification System to identify students who are having difficulties in a given course. If you have received an Academic Alert letter, we urge you to speak with your instructor so that you can work out a reasonable plan for the semester and visit our Academic Alert website for additional resources.

Financial Aid
You may also be on Financial Aid Probation or Disqualification.  You should check with their office right away.  Call 209-954-5151 or visit them on the 1st floor of the DeRicco Student Services Building.

Math Science Learning Center
You may find it helpful to study with a tutor.  A tutor can give you the one-on-one attention that you might need to be successful in a particular course.

Math and Test Survival Skills
Does Math or Taking Tests cause you anxiety?  Dr. Mai Xiong's workshop will assist you in overcoming those anxieties and help you on your road to success.

Reading and Writing Center

You may find it helpful to study with a tutor.  A tutor can give you the one-on-one attention that you might need to be successful in a particular course.
