Suggested courses designed to help aged-out foster youths develop:
Guidance 5 Enhancing Self Esteem, Cultural Awareness, and College Success This course is designed to enable the student to focus on the development of self-esteem and personal responsibility leading to college success. The course includes discussion of cultural awareness and diversity. Guidance 11 New Student Orientation This is an eight-hour course designed to provide orientation to new and re-entering students. The matriculation process, certificate, associate degree and transfer requirements are discussed. This course is an overview of the registration process, student services, and the campus. Students create a first semester course list with a counselor. Guidance 19 Introduction to College and Education Planning This course is an introduction to the college experience and the educational planning process through counseling and advising. This course assists students in the development of a comprehensive Student Education Plan. The course topics include identifying values, making decisions and establishing academic and career goals. Guidance 30 Career Self-Assessment This course is designed to introduce the student to the career life planning process. The course emphasizes self-assessment as the first major step in the career life planning process. The student explores career choices by identifying his/her personality, strengths, skills, interests, values, and preferred lifestyle. |
