NURS 007 - Intermediate Medical/Surgical Nursing - Units 5.5
Prerequisites: NURS 4 and NURS 5 with a grade of "C" or better.
Limitations on Enrollment: Admission into the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
This course is designed to introduce the student to the expanded role of emergency and critical care nursing. Theoretical and clinical approaches to nursing care of the severely compromised individual through the resuscitative, critical, and restorative phases of acute illness are presented. Analysis of the etiology and effect of biological, psychological, spiritual, and cultural influences of acute injury to the core organs of the neurological, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems is utilized in the priority and delivery of comprehensive nursing care. The collaborative role of the nurse in preventive care and maintenance of optimal wellness is discussed. (CSU)
