NURS 005 - Mental Health Nursing - Units 4

Prerequisites: NURS 2 and NURS 3 or H S 3 with a grade of "C" or better.

Limitations on Enrollment: Admission into the Associate Degree Nursing Program.

This course is designed to present mental health principles to assist the nursing student in developing an increased understanding of human behavior, therapeutic communication, anxiety, psychiatric disorders, psychopharmacology, chemical dependency, personality disorders, domestic violence, sexual assault, and mental status assessment. With emphasis on a wholistic, collaborative model, clinical experiences are offered in private, public and community psychiatric agencies where psychiatric care is provided to a culturally diverse population.
