NURS 004 - Beginning Medical/Surgical Nursing - Units 5.5
Prerequisites: NURS 2 and NURS 3 or H S 3 with a grade of "C" or better.
Limitations on Enrollment: Admission into the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
This course is designed to provide learning experiences directed toward restoration and maintenance of optimal health of the adult in the acute and non-traditional health care setting within a culturally diverse community. The concept of wholism, integrated into the nursing process, is utilized as a means to facilitate interventions in adults experiencing chronic and acute health problems. The theoretical content includes immunology and hematology, ethical-legal aspects of medication administration, and concepts pertinent to the neurological, genitourinary, respiratory, endocrine, and musculoskeletal systems. The expanded role of the nurse as a collaborative member of the health care team is emphasized. (CSU)
