NURS 001 - Introduction to Nursing - Units 4.5
Prerequisites: ANAT 2 or ANAT 1 and PHYSI 1, MICRO 2, FCS 6, ENG 1A; concurrent enrollment in NURS 3.
Limitations on Enrollment: Admission into the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
This course is designed to present the concepts and principles of nursing practice. Development and practical application of the concepts of wholism with emphasis upon the biological, psychological, sociological, cultural, and spiritual needs of the individual client as a member of the community and society is integrated throughout the course. The nursing process is introduced as a method to be used in the planning and evaluation of nursing care for adult and/or geriatric clients. The ethical and legal aspects of professional nursing, trends in nursing, and the basic pharmacological considerations inherent in providing nursing are discussed. The principles of patient teaching and the documentation of patient care are introduced. Clinical experiences focus upon the actual and potential problems of the adult with chronic and/or non-critical illness. The student learns to meet basic human needs of selected individuals in the Skills Laboratory, extended care, acute care, and community health settings. (CSU)
